This is something that needs to be showed, not "walked through" on line. Do you have any trustworthy LFS near you? Luna

I would not sweat the surface film it will break up in time as others have stated. It has minimal effect on light penetration and wont hurt any of your reef denziens. I get surface film every time i feed my corals and have never had an issue in the 2 years the tank has been running. It's a 24 gallon nano and a very beautiful tank as many on here can agree too.

Ive always been told that surface film can starve the system of oxygen exchange.

The only thing that I can tell you is, get the holes done and get a sump. The holes shouldnt cost any more than $15-$20 each. Dont let the LFS sell you something you dont need, just tell them what you want. If you have the option to empty out the tank and place all the livestock in holding containers, them just do it. If you have never drilled a tank, than leave it to someone who knows how. Luna

oxygen deprevation could be true if you dont have good surface agitation, my film breaks up do to chaotic water movement at the surface of the water
