Your exactly right. These types get all their nutrition from the water column. They're called filter feeders as they *filter* the water as it passes them by :) Good luck and make sure to post a picture of your new Sponge :)

    it means just that Zeo

it means they will extract fine particles of food from the water
this may or may not mean you need to add those particles to the aquarium
which depends on the type of organism your keeping, and the ambient water quality of your aquarium, the cleaner the water, the less there is for creatures that filter feed to eat

    Hi Zeo
it has been noted by many carbon dosers that the dosing does in many cases , create conditions that result in an increase in the number of sponges that form within the aquarium
and that one very experience reef chemist called Randy Holmes Farley has commented that certain sponges he is keeping seem to benefit from his carbon dosing ( he uses vinegar)

I do not recall exactly which sponges they are (possibly an orange balls sponge but I am not completely certain)

and yes it is also often stated that the excess / extra bacteria created as a result of carbon dosing can be consumed by corals
and in the case of Vinegar it has been suggested that the Acetate itself can be utilised by some of the corals in the aquarium
