    Hi all,

I have a filter media question for you. Can I just rinse and reuse my coarse foam filter media? It seems a waste to just throw it away and with such large pore spaces it is very easy to clean. Thanks for your advice and help.

    hey Jim

Yes - but if its part of your biological filtration system and that means its colonised by beneficial bacteria , when you rinse it , its important to do so in old water from the tank when your doing a water change, this cleans it, without killing off all the bacteria you need

agreed with steve. but do you have some other source of bio media in play? what type of filter unit are you using? those foam pads can get pretty bad to the point where they need to be cleaned with hot running water so if this foam pad is being used as your primary bio media as well then think about getting an additional bio filter (bio balls, bio wheel, LR, ect...).
