filter on skimmer

    i have a skimmer with a pre-filter on the inlet. its a hob skimmer. is this filter a must or can i take it off? the filter seems to get clog really fast. ive sen some skimmers without them thats why im asking.

    I took mine off for that very same reason. The only drawback is that particulate matter crashes the foam head occasionally and causes the skimmer to just bubble, but it usually clears up and starts working normally again in a just a few minutes.
