I am currently using a flu-val 305 and CPR backpack2 skimmer for my filtration, but I have just ordered a Reef Octopus LX1000s to replace the current HOB filter. Can anyone tell me if it would be advised to change my setup to only use the Reef Octopus LX1000s for my filtration? The tank is a 42 hex so the Reef Octopus LX1000s will pretty much take up the back side not leaving to much room for the Flu-Val intake/returns. Plus i wouldn't mind not having to deal with the canister filter anymore if I could get away from it.

    Thanks!

You do not NEED the canister. However, it makes a great place to run carbon and phosphate remover. If you do keep it, stay on top of the maintenance.

I used to run a fluval and loved it. Wished I still had it at times. Now I am running BRS carbon/gfo canisters.

I agree with jonjonwells' post. The reactor is more efficient but the canister is a close second.
