I recently purchased a HOB protien skimmer that has only been set up a day. My question is should i remove my hob carbon filter now, when the skimmer is broken in, or never? Thanks for the help.

Keep the carbon filter for future use with either GAC or GFO. When you start adding corals you'll need the carbon to get the toxins out of the water that they secret for protection. It also wouldn't hurt to keep running carbon, it will help polish your water. I kept mine and am running both carbon and phosban in it continuously and I have no algae whatsoever.JMHO;)

I would continue to use the carbon filter (forever) as well as the protein skimmer.
