So this is a new sump. And the glass that holds the sock sits on the rim of the tank. Well now that the first baffle runs almost to the top my sump inlet is under water and my sock is fully submerged. Any ideas on what I should do??

When I turn the return pump on and water starts to flow down the tank drain it does not drain correctly because it is under water.

The only option I see and it may not be possible. Would be to build like a acrylic box to set in the corner and make it tall enough to set the sock in above te water level, then just shorten the drain.

That is the only option I see as well. That is too much water in your first chamber.

Does water go under or over the first baffle?

The water is gonna have to be lowered in the first chamber, I assume it is running over the first baffle. The first one is goona have to be cut down a couple inches.

When I used a sock/bag, (I use a mesh bag now), Mine was usually at least 3/4 underwater also.- still works

** YOu have to be careful here!!

When your sock/bag gets saturated with debris and starts to also flow over the top-
You HAVE to make sure that it will run over the top and still fall into the sump, and not on the floor!!
I've seen many a post where this has happened, even lowered the SG too much and the tank crashed- due to an ATO and losing SW, not just evaporation.

    Good luck

Yes the water flows over the first baffle.
I just really don't want to take to glass out to cut it!!
I like the acrylic box idea

What if I add a pice of PVC pipe length wise on the input with several lateral cuts on it to let the air and water escape and then drill a hole in the first baffle and hang my sock there?? Would it be ok to have my sock after my refugium.

I need to figure this out because my return pump has not ran for 24 hours!!!
    Will I be ok??

For right now, I suggest running the tank without one and see how the tank does. I do not run one on mine, and am very happy running it this way. Then if you determine you really do need one, at least you will have some time to design a new way to attach it.

I would be concerned about the water level. If you have a power loss or return pump failure, there does not appear to be enough room for the overflow from the main tank to enter the sump without overflowing unless there is a secondary tank i am not seeing or some type of check valve on your overflow lines. If the water level is dropped to accomodate this then your sock will be uncovered. JM2C

My returns are bearly under the water line when the pump gets turned off I get 1inch of fluctuation in the first chamber. Thanks for the concern though.
