    I need a non-overpriced new filter for my 150 gallon reef aquarium any suggestions?

    with a reef aquarium
    IMO - You do not need a external cannister filter for biological filtration
    as that will occur on the rockwork, sandbed and in fact every surface in the display tank
    providing you have adequate rockwork to support enough bacteria and enough flow to deliver nutrients to it

    if your going to have a sump/ fuge combo thats even better, as you can then add reactors to your system for running chemcal media, such as GFO and Carbon
    which are more effective tumbling gently in a reactor than they are in pouches in a cannister filter

    but if your not having a sump fuge, you could use these media in a cannister and they would still work, just not as efficiently

    the Fluval FX5 is a very good cannister filter IMO, should you decide to go that route

    I love the fx5. Get two if you can, then you should be set. They can be expensive, but on eBay they sell for about $180/unit,

    so if i get fx5, lots of rock, powerhead, and protein skimmer I should be set the tank is not set up yet but planning on doing so tomaro, and why do people drill their tank should i do it for mine.
