    Hi Everyone,

I have a quick question regarding filtration for saltwater tanks, as I am looking for a few ways to address several challenges- including increasing my pod population and reducing nuisance algae. I have a Non-drilled 45g bowfront with an Aqua C Remora skimmer and HOB Emperor 400 filter.

    My questions:

    • What is the ideal set-up for a reef tank in terms of filtration?
    • Should I switch out my mechanical filter for a refugium?
    • If so, for the refugium, I do not want to drill the tank- are there any ways to run a sump with drilling?
    • Or are there any HOB refugiums that are recommended?

Well you could go with a CPR Overflow Box and a sump/fuge. Or you could go with the CPR HOB Aquafuge. Although it may be a bit small for your size tank. Here's a link~you can find them almost anywhere. I personally run the medium on my 26g and love it.

Yea, I have been looking at those, but wasn't sure if that would be better than my mechanical filter with carbon. I certainly don't have room for both.

    Here are my opinions

    Yes

Yes, there are hang on back overflows.

I've used a CPR hang on back that was nice.
