There is no such thing as too much... the only thing that would be too much is wasted space. Skimmers will only skim out what is there. Algae can't grow if there is no nutrients. Bacteria can't eat what isn't there. You can only support the algae and bacteria you have food for. You can have a 100g fuge but it won't grow anything.

I dont see this as complete overkill but I also dont see the need for chaeto if you have a successful ATS. I dont know what kinds of coral you have but if I had your filtration setup I would be feeding the coral a bit on the heavy side. ;)

my skimmer has been down over a week now. finally received the part in the mail. but anyway. i have noticed a change in the corals. the carnation coral is feeding all day. and the one goniopora is puffing up like a blow fish every day almost all day, it goes down a bit and looks more normal but most the time looks like a blowfish :( not crazy about that look, i like when it looks like flowers. is really odd looking. i do supplement with coral food, but after seeing this will be doing it more often when the skimmer gets put back in. ( last night i just didnt feel like messing with the skimmer so its still out)
even with seeing this the skimmer will go back in. my 58 gallon i had before i didnt run a skimmer most of the time i purchased a good skimmer right before i took the tank down it did fine without a skimmer so honestly i wonder if maybe they should be ran to clear the water ...maybe at night, but not constant.

^^^ You are not feeding enough. Skimmers will remove "some" amount of food. Some animal's poop is lunch to another animal. The point with realy good waste removal isn't so we can have pristine water.... it is so we can have clean water and still feed a a ton. Most people believe in the myth that skimmers strip too much when in reality they are feeding much too little.

I don't know how much that is. I fed my 90 3 cubes a day, plus Cyclopeze, rotties, oyster eggs, and phyto. Not all of them every day but one of them every day. Can't really say how much if it is not enough. I tried to feed until I saw it effecting algae growth. Everything grew well and still no nitrates and no algae. I dosed coral food after lights out and stirred up my sump once a night and turned the skimmer off for a few hours.
