My anemone has been well-documented on here in the last two weeks or so... Basically, it has withdrawn into its body and been like that for 10 days now Some days, it seems to be making a recovery and its tentacles appear, albeit briefly... Then it just seems to get even more withdrawn. The big question is: everyone has advised me to 'keep an eye on it' but nothing seems to have changed - so has the time come to admit defeat and fish it out? I've not seen any of the tell-tale signs of it dying and it still seems firmly stuck to the rock. It's even moved around the rock ever so slightly in the last couple of days... So should I give it more time or not?

Yes - got carbon running. Just been looking at it and a few of the tentacles are coming out every now and again so it's clearly not dead. Just a bit baffling what's brought it on...

I'm out at work nine hours a day though so I'm a bit concerned I'll come back and it'll have nuked the tank... Not sure how potent its decaying matter is - got a 120g Anthias and only got six fish in there so hopefully, if the worst comes to the worst, the consequences might not be too grave...

Latest parameters were: Nitrate, Amonia, Nitrite and Phosphate - all zero. Ph had risen from 8.3 to 8.4. Lighting is Aqua Medic Metal Halide set-up - think it's 150W and bulbs were replaced in May. MH lights are normally on six hours a day, Acitinics are on 12 hours a day.

the ones you have posted are great Andrew

do you have any other tests - Calcium, Magnesium, Alk or DKH, ?
also - copper? have you or could you get the LFS to do a copper test for you
any chance something has fallen into the tank that might be poluting the water slowly?
can you still buy Polyfilters TM in UK ? as these are great at removing nasties
I often ran these when my corals did not look 100% at their best and the improvement in water quality these provided often did the trick

The LFS did a Magnesium test at the weekend and it was 1.40 I think... He said it was 'a little low' but nothing to worry too much about... DKh was 8 and Calcium was 400. The previous owner assures me no copper has ever been used in the tank and the other inverts I have - a dozen or so snails and a cleaner shrimp seem fine. As I've said in previous postings, everything else in the tank seems to be really thriving. On the same day I added the BTA, I also introduced a grape coral and that has doubled in size. My Candy Cane and Hammerheads are really bright and buoyant too. Maybe I just bought a sickly anemone?? One other observation which might be nothing but yesterday, I noticed the 'stalk' behind the body of the anemone seemed quite long - about two inches. Today, the anemone just looks like a shrivelled flower head and no sign of the stalk...
