I decided today to finally build a real fuge/sump for my tank. I've been running a 20g long with rubbermade baffles rigged up for too long. I planned it out to be a unique system that would have a large fuge while still keeping 2/3 the tank for the return section...that didn't work out so well. I had some good plans drawn up, but when I had the glass cut the yield made me decide to cut slightly different. That killed my plans and I ended up going a more traditional route. It's not as interesting and cutting edge as I was hoping for, but it does have some beefy bubble traps and two fuge sections so I can have a chaeto fuge and caleurpa fuge separate. It's glued and curing now, so in the next couple of days I will have it in place.

Here's the original plans that failed. The sheets it was cut from were 12" wide and the guy didn't know how to take a 1/4 off to get them narrow enough to fit in the tank. I decided to leave them at 12" and angle them a bit in the tank to make them fit. This of course made it impossible to make a square box and impossible to build the fuge above the return chamber.

Here's what I ended up with. Next time it will be like or some variant of the first plan.

I actually already have three. I refuse to do water changes though so every chance I get to squeeze another fuge out of what space I have I jump on it.

I do, but the tank is in the basement which is basically the living room. I was having the same thought the other day when I saw a pre-built 250 gallon acrylic fuge/sump on a local forum for $250. I don't know if eight times the volume of my display would be big enough for me though. I need to move closer to the ocean so I can use that as my sump.

Here's the layout of the fuges that sit on the back of my tank. Now I'll have another two in the sump.
