word of advice, atleast what i do with my jbj tank

don't waste cash on the JBJ carbon bags, buy some activated carbon and small filter socks

put about a pound of carbon in the filter sock and change it out every 2 weeks, atleast that's what I do and it's working well for me

When I had my 12 I ran carbon 3 days every 2 weeks... worked out great for me... I only had my ceramic rings in the tank.. Took out the sponges shortly after I got it....

Lfs guy also told me that the balast was defective. He said it has been a fairly common problem with jbj

Well it has been about 3 weeks now, and i thought i would give a little update. My ammonia levels spiked up to about 5 ppm was the highest i recorded it at. nitrite spiked to 2 ppm and the nitrates went to 60 ppm or so. My ph is 7.8 and my alk has been climbing slowly to about 1.9ppm. I am not even going to ask "am I almost done cycling" because god knows im not. A friend of mine gave me a 4 little hermits which are still alive after 4 days. Kind of cool to watch them forage. I am still a ways off from buying any real livestock maybe towards the end of july, I want to make sure my diy live rock is well seeded, and growing some stuff. I will post some more pics of my final aquascape which has the sealife inc live rock.
