As I mix up my first batch of saltwater for the new tank I figured I'm way over do to start my build thread. I've been wanting to since the beginning but haven't had the time.

A year ago this past April I got back into the hobby with a 29 gallon BioCube, I thought the smaller tank would be less money and easier to take care of. Right on the first wrong on the second, needless to say I should have started off bigger.

So January rolls around and I convinced the wife that we needed to upgrade. I originally wanted a 75 but soon settled on the 90 gallon. And so it began.

Congrats, looking forward to seeing your tank fill out.

From the beginning I wanted to buy as much used and build what I could to save money. The first item I needed was the tank and after a month of searching and looking at some used tanks I decided I had to go new. After looking at 4 brand new tanks I finally found one in perfect shape with no scratches. It was a Marineland 90 gallon with corner overflow

Once I had the tank it was on to the stand, I spent hours online looking at plans for other stands, it took a month and a half to build but other than the minor imperfections I am pretty happy.

Now that the stand was done I bought a 30 gallon tank for the sump, and I leaked tested both tanks.

At some point along the way I decided on an SWC 160 Cone skimmer.

The next project was to build the sump. For some reason I really did not want to use glass baffles, thought it would be more difficult, but I did and could not be happier. It's a basic design, first section for the protein skimmer, then 3 baffles, over, under, over, then a refugium for pods and some cheato.

Another big project was the electrical. I decided to run a dedicated line from a new 20A GFI breaker. I went with the GFI breaker instead of the individual GFI outlets because of the cost, its much cheaper. The new line comes right up though the floor and goes into the back of the tank. Wiring each individual outlet was the tedious part.
