OK so when i went to bed last night i saw my picasso clown sleeping in his usual spot. the very top of the tank. When i awoke this morning he is gone. Just no trace of him or his body anywhere. I saw him at like 3 am so its been like 8 hours. The only thing hats different is my carpet anemone has moved, he has attached himself to a much higher spot than normal, off the sand bed. he looks like hes just eaten with some kind of stringy stuff hanging out of his mouth. The carpet is a host to two domino damsels. Could the anemone have eaten my clownfish? Because my shrimps all look the same and they would still be picking at his body if he died randomally?

He was a b grade picasso clown, WHY couldnt it have been the true perc.

OWWWWWWWWWWWWWYYYYYYY... That hurts.. like you said it... why not a true perc. I have heard that carpets just randomely sometimes eat swimming fish. Is it possible he is hiding in the collection cup or something? Did you look all around the live rock? Im sure you did... but just making sure. Good Luck and sorry to hear about your possible loss.

Put some food in there and see if the clown pops out of the rocks somewhere. However, if your carpet anemone is pooping, then it clearly ate something. Hopefully I'm wrong, but if I'm correct, I'm very sorry for your loss.

My clowns have panicked me from time to time by just disappearing for a while. Hopefully this is the case...

Feed the tank and see if he comes out.

As for loosing your picasso over your false perc...

Law of Death: The potential for death is equally proportionate to monetary value of the livestock.

Law of Death Corollary 1: The potential for fish loss based on monetary value is waved when the love of the fish greatly exceeds the monetary value of the fish.

Law of Death Corollary 2: If you want to remove or kill a fish on purpose, you will not be able to do either no matter the monetary value because we can never have our way.

No I already tried the feeding and no luck. I've searched te overflow and sump and no sign. The anemone is big and colorful and looking like he just ate something. It sucks when you lose a hundred dollar fish. But then again it is the ocean survival of the fittest. I had been looking at a pair of domino clowns I really wanted to get but mixing clowns won't go over well. I had the Picasso for like 9 months maybe it's fate telling me to try the new breed soon. Thanks for all your replies.

in the middle towards the bottom above the favitas theyres a goo looking substance dangling. Im assuming this is a fish waste its spitting out

also I find it weird, my anemone i could not get it to take any foods for the past five months. I tried everything from mysis, shrimp, cod, silver sides, and krill he rejected everything. I watched the dominos on several occasions crapping in its mouth so i assumed it ate the detritus and waste and such. But now the sudden switch to live foods has thrown me way off

okay I am now watching the blood shrimps walk over and eat the dangling waste coming out of the anemones mouth. Very weird how nothing goes to waste in a tank.

Do you have a canopy? If no - check the floor behind your tank, I found my tomato clown there once.
