Is it supposed to look all over like these few "polyps" ?

Yea.... polyps not fully extended on whole body. Only a few started to open. Too much light? not enough light? Is this a new coral?

yes added it less than 10 days ago, slow acclimation, looked a little gray for a few days, now it looks tan, polyps are coming out slowly. it's under 6x39w T5s, maybe about 9-10" deep

I would have started this coral at ground level til it started to open then move it up slowly to desired height.

Mine prefers med to low flow. Took several months to find a spot it was really happy.

it is in med flow right now, I have a good spot where I could put it on the sand bed low flow

no not too late. Hasnt been in tank that long. Will do it some good. lower down a bit. wait till it opens up then raise it. But I wouldnt have it in the upper 1/3 of your tank.

alright, so right now it's at 9 inches from the lights, lowest (on the sand bed) would be 19 inches, should I just place it on the sand, wait a few days (or weeks ?) till it opens up nice and then raise it back up slowly ?

yes.... and this should be done with most softies and lps. sps you would want to start a 1/3 way up from the bottom. All of this will vary depending on the lighting the coral previously came from.

wait 3-5 days then move it up another 5 inches or so. And repeat process. Thats the proper way on acclimating your coral to your lighting.

Take a short cut and suffer what your dealing with right now. Possible coral burn and no polyp extension ;)
