My finger leather has gone into a hibernation for the second time in 2 months - the first time it was closed for almost two weeks.

We are now on day 6 on the second time. I decided to move it higher and into more flow - when I picked it up the base let go a bunch of rice like fibers - has anyone had this happen - and does anyone know what it could be?

Could it be molting? What about phosphates?

I have had mine for a little over 5 months now and never had a issue with molt but i did notice that when PH drops below 8.3 and S.G. drops below 1.025 that it gets much smaller.

When you put it in higher flow area did it open up or closed still?

It is most likely molting. Dont worry about it. Leathers are VERY hardy and a molt could take up to 2 weeks.

Hey tank1970 can you put up an image please?

What type of flow is it in now?

    Are you using a refractometer?

    TIA

yes I use a refractometer I now have it in high flow to 1/3 of the tank - I did have it in a med flow on the sand. I don't but will put one up shortly - It looks almost plastic
