Recently finished my cycle & I'm lookin to add some nice zoas. Right now my tank is runnin pc's. I ordered a RB 24" photon LEDs system. Should I wait to add any corals til I get my light? I'm hopin light will be here within a few weeks. Just wondering if it would be a lot of stress for any coral to be shipped here & have to go under the current light & then have to adapt to the new light again shortly after.

    Well Bob,

The corals may go thru some stress, but I'd still go for it if that's what you'd like to do.

PC's kinda got a bum rap IMHO.

I started with PC's- I'd still be using them if they still worked correctly! Sometning about going swimming too often and them not working properly.

My favorite bulb combo was a 2 x a 96W 1400K + a dual actinic 420nm/460nm- those things still got my tank looking better than my current basement LED's- which still look pretty good.

I'm not sayin pc's are bad. I've used them for years on my 85 tank I had with Mh's & they worked great. I also don't know how old these bulbs are in my tank.
I'm guessing your bulbs went for a swim & not you. Lol, I hated it when I'd go to change the Mh bulb & while removing the bolts to remove the glass, one would drop into the mass pile of rock work we had. And leavin a metal bolt in saltwater is not an option.

But I'm just hopin I can get these new lights to work efficiently. I've never had LEDs & it seems they have more options now that I can screw up. I like the idea of just flicking a switch & forgetting about it.
And doing what I want to do is not always the right thing. Just diving back into tanks can be a lil nerve racking when you know how easily things can just die from a wrong decision. Haha

What corals were you thinking? I'm keeping toad stool, zoa, mushroom and hammer Coral under 4x65 watt pc on my 75 gallon with no problems. 2x10k whites and 2 Actinic.

I'm looking to add some bright colored zoas, probably gonna order a handful of them. Was thinking about adding a toadstool also. Then in a few months add a Duncan, trumpet & torch & maybe if I can find a purple tip frogspawn or hammer. My ex has our old 85g loaded with sweet corals. So I'm waiting on her to move back before summer so I can get a bunch of free frags. Lol

I went from those PC's- with newer bulbs-
    to my LED's.
I started with the basement brand of TaoTronics- off ebay- INEXSPENSIVE, and I'll upgrade those before I"ll ever need new bulbs

NO dimmers, only 2 colors, each on it's own plug, etc.
I plug them into those cheapy round dial timers, the whites and blues are seperate, I never touch them now, works great.

I needed lights real fast so my sps, etc wouldn't die, and they came within 5 days I think.

I think you'll be fine. You're going to get what I want too except the trumpet.

Surprised noone told you to slow down. If you've just finished your cycle tank seems pretty young for corals. Might be better to wait and make sure parameters and levels are stable first. My 2cents.
