please help I've had my firefish goby (Fred) for 2 years now and he has always been healthy and the most docile fish. He has now been hiding out in a rockfor quite a few days.. I reached in to the tank to clean the rock and he came out with a huge stomach..breathing is a little heavier than usually and he seems to have trouble staying afloat. Any suggestions?

Possibly from excess vegetable matter or internal parasite.

You should start giving him sea week or veggie flakes.
Was he big when u got him?

I have a Diamond Goby that occasionally has this bloating as well. Just observe and feed lightly for a couple days. This has never lasted more than a day or two to mine.

its important to not the difference between the expanded jaw and bloating of the stomach. My goby will spend a couple hours every couple months or so with his jaw expanded. he may look bloated but its because his jaw is open.

In my particular case it is a little bump under his belly. I feed Flake and Mysis, otherwise it's sifting for him. In the three years he's been around I have noticed the bump a few times. During those times I haven't seen any change in his behavior in the tank.

no my firefish has extreme bloating in his stomach or swim bladder...not sure which but its huge. When I first saw this he also had long stringy excrement , but those have since disappeared.

    Is this swim bladder disease?
    Or perhaps a bacterial/parasitic infection?
    internal roundworms?

    How should I treat?

Try offering multiple foods of various sizes. Also, try soaking the food in vitamin C and garlic supplement...avoid stress for the fish also.
    Good luck!
