I picked these guys up today:

They were out being good swimmers front and center for the first hour or so. Then I went to wipe down the glass and they freaked out. Started darting like crazy. One even hit the top of the water....he did not jump, or atleast not that I can find anywhere around the tank. Now both have dissapeard and I can not find them anywhere...lol.

Have they just gone into extreme hiding? Do they do that when spooked? How long do they normal stay hidden?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
Firefish are jumpy and do dart around. Perfectly normal behavior for them. That is why it is important to have a lid and a lot of hiding places. I kept a trio of them for years. They are great fish. Yours are beautiful.

It's normal. That's why they are also called "Dartfish". As to hiding, they dig a burrow and sleep there and "dart" there when they want to hide from something.

Also, hopefully you have some sort of cover on your tank, because they can and will jump.

I found their burrow under a rock. They are both in there and took turns coming out for a few minutes to take a peak around. Unfortunately they did not come out when I fed the tank.

When should I start being concerned if they keep missing feedings?

Nice looking firefish, and I see a nice peppermint too. I don't think they should miss feedings; they really need to adjust, so give it some time. If they don't come out to eat or don't come out at all try osme garlic in the food to make it more enticing.

They decided to come out! Late in the light cycle they came out and swam in the water column until the lights turned off. They really are beautiful fish. I calmly fed the water column to see if they would eat and they took frozen mysis great!

When I was at the store earlier I saw this beautiful Coral Beauty in the back ground and could not resist. The CB is eating great too. :)

Firefish are weird...there are never two that act the same. I picked mine up a month ago for my 14gBC. I was hoping it would burrow and just poke it's head out once in a while and during feeding. Pffff. He is front and center every second the lights are one. Once the lights go off it hides.

For sure on them darting around. I can use my MagFloat and it has no effect on my fish but if I put my finger on the glass to remove a fingerprint this guy go nuts darting around.

Weird fish...but very fun and amazing colors.
