Does anyone have any experience with firefish ? Thinking about it for my next addition. Is there any discernible difference between the purple firefish and firefish (in temperament or ease of care)?

I have had one for almost 18 months. It hid for the first few months but now is out and about.

It eats about anything I give it. On the down side they are known to be jumpers and mine is in a covered tank.

the only differance I have ever noticed is the color and price!

yea, im used to housing a suicidal fish...my jawfish (may he rest in peace) tried to jump a couple times so i already have a secure top...probably going to get some screen to cover the really openings just to be sure

I have had both the purple and red firefish living peacefully together, havent ever had a problem. but yes they are jumpers, be sure to have some eggcrate or something over the top of the tank.

Mine jumped out. Awesome fish. I think the purple firefish is priced a bit high. I'd go with a reg.

Mine disappeared recently. It wasn't having a problem with any of my newer additions, so I think it just died for some reason. Hopefully it is hiding, but I haven't seen it in awhile. They seem to be VERY shy to me.

They are very well known for being jumpers, esp. if they're being bullied. I had a couple in my reefer life and I dont remember any of them jumping. Luna

They are cool fish ( I personally like the red ones a little better) BUT if you decide to get more than 1, make sure you introduce at the same time or 1 will bully the other(s). If you decide to get any semi-aggressive fish in the future as well, you may want to stay away because they are bullied very easily and will be hiding 90% of the time so you wont ever see them.

Well mine is now residing in my 75 with no cover. Its been in there for about a week now with no problems. Hope it stays that way.
I gotta say this though, every time I look at the tank he is out and about, way more than the original tank it was in....
