    so i am getting a firefish are they best kept in pairs or alone?

    I'd be kinda worried, I put in a firefish with a damsel and the firefish was considerably larger yet the damsel attacked it so I had to move it to another tank. Food for thought though cus your tank is bigger.

    Pairs if introduced at the same time, otherwise alone. That's what I've heard.

    Yep, pairs. Doesn't matter if they are added at the same time or not. I bought my 2 from petco. There were 3 in the tank and 2 were obviously hanging out together.

    you cant put the reds and, the purples together.

    I have seen a red and a purple hang out together in tanks. Go with what you think and be prepared to act. You never know what the fishes personalities are. The fishes are known to hang out in large numbers in the wild. I had a red and a purple in a 60 years ago that was FOWLR and they did fine even though they did not hang out and I did not have a large number of bolt holes.

    i have a red a purple together, they get along fine. at least so far. the red has been in the tank for about 2 months, the purple for a month
