I purchased my first coral today, a mushroom coral. It looks like its about to split in two. I'm sure some of you have some stories about these guys, What are they like to keep? how fast do they grow? My maroon is an awful curious creature. Hes been inspecting it since the minute i put it in. Can they do anything benefficiall for the coral?

Picture? Ughghghghggh...They never learn JK LOL
Mushroom corals are personally one of my favorites! They are great, hardy corals. How much they grow depends on your light, but they will mpst likely produce a new mushroom baby every 3-4 weeks. Congrats on your new add, and forst coral!

mushroom corals might grow fast but it depends but they are VERY easy to keep and your maroon might host it but this will not hurt it to bad;D

I love mushrooms ( I think they may actually be kin to nems). So much color, and yet so hearty and easy to propagate.
    Good luck!

gratz! one of my first corals (not too long ago) were shrooms too and it seems to be doing well so far. i bought 4 on a stick but it wasnt long before another 2 small ones showed themselves and have gained size quite quickly.
my LFS suggested getting them as an indicater of water quality, he said they werent as fussy about light so if they ever showed signs of stress it would be mean something else is wrong.
and like most things taking periodic photos will be the best way to track growth as you wont notice it happening each day

Just keep up on your water changes with a good salt mix and you'll be fine for softies and LPS. You really only need to supplement if you get into the more challenging SPS corals and clams.;)
