    Hello all,
I'm wanting to get my first coral. I have 4x54w t5 light and my tank has been running for about 3 months. Is this too early to add a coral? If not any suggestions on a hardy coral for beginners ? Any suggestion are appreciated.

    Thanks and happy reefing,

    The Hef.

That is not to early at all, I would probably try some zoo's or something. Thats what I started with. Now I'm doing SPS.

cool, I havent checked the params this week. I only have a nitrate nitrite, and ammonia test. But my lfs will do a complete test if needed. I'm gonna go to the lfs today i'll take a sample to get tested and browse for some Zoo's or other softies. Any in particular that a neat?

Some nice lps are elegance, and frogspawn, but I would try to find some nice zoas, they always brighten a tank

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
And what you can make happy in your tank. I would start with some cheaper corals and test the waters (so to speak). I would not start with an elegance coral, try some easier LPS like duncans and acans. Just go slow and test for calcium, magnesium, dkH, pH, SG before adding corals.

You should be able to keep just about anything under the light. Starting off with zoos, acans, mushrooms and such is the best way to go. Get those testing kits that Coralline mentioned.
