I finally got 'em! i just came home from the store and picked up a small hammer coral frag and an acan frag. I put them under my diy led fixture and they opened up, i was only at around 50% power too! I just wanted to share my excitment for my first coral and test run of my led fixture. btw any other good beginner corals that are colorful?

    Congrats on the new adds.

Zoas and mushrooms would fit your bill.

In the euphyllia category you have torches and frogspawn coral that are usually quite colourful. You could also try sinuosa, also known as bubble coral. They usually aren't very colourful(whitish or green tinged mostly) but the occasional one is a nice vibrant green. Cynarina might be a good fit too or some type of brain coral. As for softies you could try a yellow fiji leather coral.
Edit: These aren't the most beginner coral, but they aren't any harder to keep than hammers or acans, so if those do well these should too.

Growth rates depend on the specific zoa type and water parameters, I believe they like slightly dirtier water.
