Well yesterday I noticed a pretty nasty cut wound on my female clown about 3 hours later I saw she was gasping and swimming unusually away from her mate. I was hoping she would pull through but this morning I found her dead on the sand bed...first fish loss kinda sucks. Well I do have a question for you guys how long do I have to add another clown? I heard if you wait too long they will kill each other. Thanks in advance guys.

I would add one fast before your male turns female. when you buy one look for a larger one it should be female and if not one of them will turn and they should be fine together.

Not a clue lol. May be a safer bet if you want them be to a breeding pair to look for a male and let them decided which needs to be the female. This way if your too late and the one you have turns you may still have both.

I would not add anything if there is ich on a fish. Get some Marine-Max and treat the tank (it is all natural) and when the fish fights off the ich (if not too late) then you can think about adding another fish. No one is addressing the fact that the clown had a gash..from what? There is something going on in the tank, the gash, and stress, causing the ich on the Tang.

The gash from on the clown I'm pretty sure was from the coral beauty I saw them fighting a bit when I first put the clowns in the tank. I'm not sure why the tang got ich it's eating well so I really hope it's not too late and don't worry I'll definitely wait to add anymore fish until the ich clears up (hopefully).

Okay, I am brand new to this hobby and my limited knowledge is from my friend's experiences and these forums. I bought my first pair of clowns, one of which had what seemed to be a grain of sand on his tail fin, I did not suspect that it was ICH but I still did the reading up on ICH. I had actually seen ICH on my friend's fish. ICH is a microscopic parasite that cannot live in water for more than 6 weeks without a host. Your fish cannot just get stressed and the parasite comes out of nowhere. It can exist in the water and if your fish is stressed, it is more susceptible to ICH and other diseases. Are we using the term ICH as a general term for your Tang's symptoms?
