I spent 8 days without power from Irene, and now I'm going on 35 hours after this snow storm. I really really hate my electric company =/.

I was in Mass too when I realized my webcam shut down. I wasn't sure why, but after checking with a few friends, I concluded that the power shut off. Considering how cold it was that got me scared and I drove back to CT as fast as I could.

2 1/2 hours later, I got back to my house to see the tank below 71 degrees, turned my generator on, and got it back up to normal, and everyone is alive;D, but still without power. Heard it could be a week before I get it again.. ridiculous especially in this cold weather.

Anyone else out of power from this last snow storm?

Luckily mine didn't go out. Maybe I should buy a generator...

mine stayed on, but im not with CL&P anymore, moved to norwich and they are on their own grid which is smaller and easier to maintain. durring irene norwich was only out for a day, if that. but then again we only had about 5 inches of snow, hope it doesnt take a week like they were saying on NPR this morning. best of luck

Still out..., going on 72 hours now, fish and inverts are doing well.

I've been able to keep my tank within the range of 75 - 80 degrees. I'm tempting to letting it drop to 74 before raising it again since its difficult to maintain after the generator shuts off.

What's the lowest temp anyone would recommend it going down to?

I have a lightly stocked 90 gal with the following fish/inverts:
    - 2 clowns
    - 1 YT damsel
    - 1 Flame Angel
    - 1 Scopas Tang
    - 3 Shrimp (cleaner, fire, peppermint)

I think my Scopas tang does not like the swings, but everyone else seems to not care.

billielewis3: Yeah, local power companies / town owned power grids is so much better. They only have a small area to cover usually and are quick to fix it. Wallingford, CT is the same, and they never lose power. I only received about 8 inches, so it wasn't a lot of snow, just too many leaves on the trees and that knocked down a lot of trees/brances in the area.

I'm going to end up buying a stand by generator and hook it up to my natural gas line so it automatically turns on when the power drops. Twice in 2 months, this certainly sounds like it could be the norm going forward for this area. I've lived in New England for 25 years and I've never had power this unreliable.

Where I live we are out in the country and have these problems every winter. We have lost is for a week a time or two. I figure with the thousands of dollars in aquariums a generator was the smart choice. I have a honda generator I bought for my camper that I use just for the big tank. They are all wired to just plug and go. Glad to hear they are doing good. It always frusterating to wonder.

I'm looking at a 7000watt generator now to power my entire house. The portable one works, but I never end up powering everything in the tank, so when the power comes back online I'm going to end up tossing the sump water. At least my DSB is there to keep up with some filtration.

I can run my heat, well, electric, tanks, fridge, and whatnot on 6500 watt the 220 runs off a honda inverter 2000 watt. I know the whole system could run off the 6500 watt. It also runs 8-9 hrs

Oh the joys of living in New england. CL&P are entirely too large to adequately keep up with maintenance and repairs. If I didn't know any better, i'd say they were basically monopoly. But, here we are, going into day 4 without power at my house. Glad my gf lives in a bubble area. :-D
