Heres what my AquaC Remora (w/MJ1200) pulled out after 14 days.

The skimmer has been running for a month. For the first 2 weeks while the skimmer was "breaking in" it was pulling a full cup a day, but not nearly as dark.

I use the above container as waist collector. A hoes from the collection cup on the skimmer goes right into the top of it.

Would you guys say that is about the right amount/color of skimmate from Remora in 14 days?

I was thinking about upgrading to a "grown up" skimmer, but if this is doing its job, I might keep it for a while.

Seems to be like what I used to have with a Remora so I'd say it's working right.

I made a mod to make the skimmate dark - it works - but it reduces the volume overall by quite a bit so it's tit for tat and probably only should be used if you overproduce skimmate now and can't adjust by raising the cup higher. If you are curious you can do a search on the DIY board for the 'Remora Splatter Cap Mod.'

    Matt,
I saw your mod a while ago. I have been thinking about doing that.

Im also going to experiment with a Rio 1100 or 1400 and see what happens. I have also been thinking about making a entirely different collection cup with a wider longer riser neck. We'll see though.

I just cant leave things alone... :)

Ha. I hear ya. If you do it like I did, you can always remove the cap and fill the bolt hole to restore it. Good luck with your experiments!

Tangster, can you comment on this?

Is the Skimmate that my AquaC is producing really the "nasty stuff" or is it mearly plankton?

You can actually see light thru yours. The stuff that my Bullet 3 pulls out is so dense that you can't see light on the other side.

lol...I would hope so! We are talking a $179 skimmer vs. a $579 skimmer (excluding pump, & waist collector)! :p

If I wanted you guys to think my skimmate was darker, I would have posted this pic: ;)

If/when I get a "grown up" skimmer it will either be a PM Bullet 1, AquaC EV180, or Octopus Extreme 160 or 200...

I ran a Aqua C on my 55g and love the job it did. Little bit bigger of a tank now so I had to upgrade.

This is a pic with just the lights on in the fish room

Now this one is with a flash light behind the collector cup. Look like the Molasses that me and my grandpa used to get from Kentucky.
