    WOW!

How often does your skimmer fill up your waist collector?

How did your AquaC do on your 55g? Is my skimmate comparable to what yours produced?

In your opinion, would it be worth while to upgrade to a bigger skimmer? I am working on a mixed reef with a semi-high bio load. So far I have 2 clowns, 1 blue tang, 1 blenny, 1 peppermint shrimp, 1 cleaner shrimp, 5 snails, & 5 hermits.

I plan on getting a diamond goby, 6 line, & juvenile yellow tang down the road. I am buying all of my fish very small with plans on upgrading to a much larger tank in about a year.

Looks a little wet to me not all that bad but could be better I think , I'd slow the pump or decrease the air to dry it up a bit. It takes a while to dial a skimmer in. Mine comes out like motor oil and almost just as thick viscosity as motor oil and stinks the whole basement and up where even when I dump the collection cup .

Thanks for this post--it has been very helpful to me. I have been trying to figure out what I should be getting from my skimmer and this made it easy.

Now that it is dialed in and got the tank clean that is about 9 days worth of gunk. When I first started the Bullet it was full everyday for about 1.5 wks.

Your is a little wetter then I ran mine, I liked more of a dry foam so that it made a thick oil like Tangster talked about.

A good skimmer is a must and should no be something to try and save a penny on, you will only pay for it later on with problems.

    Otty,
Were you using a MJ1200 to power your Remora? How far up did you keep your cup?

If I had it to do again, I would have never bought the Remora. It was literally the very first purchase I made when I started buying equipment for my tank. The only reason I bought it was because it had good reviews on marinedeop.com, and they also recommended it.

As HOB skimmers go, I would say its probably a pretty good choice...but I have a sump, so I have many more options for a skimmer. I actually modified my Remora so I could run it in my sump.

Tangster, thanks for the reply! Im now shooting for 10w30!

    Probably soon...

It has been modified to work in-sump (same thing as the urchin)

I modified mine to run a 400 gph PH I had so I had mine in the sump because it worked great but some bubbles got back in the water column. Can't really remember where I kept the cup at, slept since then. ::)

Do you know what pump you used? What modifications did you do?
