    The bottom line with the ammonia and the test kits is whether or not your local water supply contains chloramine, which is common these days. Chloramine is hard to remove from water, so for lack of an easy way to put it, the NH3 (ammonia) portion of it is ionized to form harmless NH4+ (ammonium).

    You need to know what's in your water to be sure...or just use RO or RO/DI for your starting water and top-off water.
