I just got my first leather. Its droopy which I hear is normal, but its sloughing its skin. Do I need to get rid of the stringy looking layer thst has falllen off?. also, some of the edges are looking kinda brown, I put it up on top, are the lights burning it?should I move it lower? if so, how long, and how long until its looking good?

Normal activities. They need to be in moderate to high flow and medium to high light. You can remove the skin or let your clean up crew take care of it. It should be fine in a couple of days.

Okay. So you dont think I should move it lower until its used to the light? will the brown spots go awasy, or does that have nothing to do with the lights?

Not sure about the brown spots, never had a leather that did that so I can't help. It may not hurt to acclimate it to your light to safe.

Leathers are very hardy - and change a lot when stressed or just feel like it. I would put it on the bottom at first with med/strong flow.

My pink finger leather changed and closed up many times - even closed up for 2 weeks with no pram issues. They adapt very well and just takes some times.

    Do the brown spots move?

No the brown spots do not move, could it be part of the dead skin coming off?? some parts kinda look like it could be, but other spots it doesnt. I'll move it dowm for now, how long should I leave it down?

As has been staed Leathers will close up from time to time. Avoid touching it. They do not react well to being touched. The discoloration could be an internal parasite but more likely its just shedding. Keep an eye on it and make sure its not rotting. A picture would help.;)

Leathers can take 1-2 weeks to full acclimate/shed. Give it time 8)
