First timer to site-Electrical Q

Hello,
This is my first time on this site. I have had a 24 nano cube for about a year. --Use to a plug and go type deal...

I 'm in the process of upgrading to an 120 gallon set-up. I'm wondering what people would suggest for electrical hook-ups. I have seen some bottom cabnets where everything is hooked into one surge protector and other sites where they have wired in a 20 amp service.
I'm wondering what most people are setting up these days when it comes to electrical.
Does anyone have pictures?

i use a surge protector on my tank look for quality dont buy a cheap one

 

Yes, I'd be careful with the cheap powerstrips, check out this recent powerstrip thread.

Some go the GFCI route, but there is a bit of debate there.

I currently have 2 independent 20 amp circuits.
One for the metal halides and one for the pump.
Then I keep the heaters and smaller pumps on a 20amp circuit that is shared only with a TV. Have to love new constructions
I would say for any extension cords make sure to use 12am or less. My buddy had this 120gal all on one breaker that was shared with the air conditioner so that when everything was running at the same time he would through the switch. With that said, depending on your setup, if you only have your tank and tank components hooked up to a single circuit it should all work just fine. Just make sure not to run all that power though a tiny 2 dollar power strip.
I believe 12 amp is what is actually already run through your entire house. I believe you can get about 50ft for 30 dollars from home depot.
