Ok i did my first water change which was not my biggest problem but anyway my tank right now is cloudy...Is this typical... It is a 55 gallon and i changed approx 12 gallons....Additionally i hooked up the sump which is another 12 gallons...I did the water change and then hooked the sump.

Second issue is the sump....Here goes let me see how to explain this..

    1) The sump is approx 1 inch over the baffles...?>>? I thought it was just supposed to trickle over...It is a berlin Bs1 sump...It is being fed with a CPR cs90 overflow box....Do i have something adjusted wrong...

    2) the return pump is a quiet one 220 which is 518 gph.....

    3) I am running a lifter pump on the overflow box with a filter for the aqua lifter.

    4) The sponge for that sump is not as wide as the sump?? I just purchased it and it will float to the top...Is there a way to prevent this....??/

    Man my head hurts....[IMG]

If the tank is new, this cloudyness can occur. Especially if you pured in water and sturred up the sand.
Can you post pics ? that would help explain it I think.

If I understand your post correctly, the water became cloudy as a result of a water change? If that's correct, then you're fine. That's perfectly normal. In time, you'll learn how to perform a water change without stirring a single grain of sand. :)

OK, for the sponge, first. Wow, replace that. \
Second , if its floating, whats holding it down ?

Usually it is wedged between two pieces of glass in the sump. If that is not possible, and you still want the foam to do something, find a way to weigh it down. If it is between two pieces of glass like usual, and it is too small then you can add a smaller piece of filter pas to help wedge it in there.

After setting up my First aquarium when ever i did a water change with reg tap water and mixing my salt just before adding it, i had a foggy tank. I bought an RO/di unit and mixed my salt and water a couple of days prior to adding it, i no longer have a foggy tank

    Hope that helps

    True,
And without RO, if you add power head to your bucket mix for a few hours before ussing it, that will help

Or you can grab your 8 y/o son and tell him to stir the bucket for an hour or so;) (my personal method)
