I have a 42 gallon that is constantly springing leaks and I am tired of it. I am wanting to combine the two clownfish and pistol shrimp from the 42 into the 90 gallon with a Banggai Cardinal, Powder Brown Tang, Yellowtail Damsel, and Engineer(convict) Goby. I have heard that the Goby will try to eat the pistol shrimp, so I'm not sure if they will work together. The shrimp is about 1.5" to 2" long (I've had it for a long time) and the Goby is about 12" long. Will they cohabitate peacefully, or will there be issues?

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
The Engineer eats shrimp as part of it's diet. The Engineer Goby is not a true Goby so it will show no preferential treatment towards the shrimp. I imagine eventually the Shrimp will become food for the fish.

I've been trying to do some research and I am seeing different facts on nearly every site. Some say that the engineer goby won't try to eat something as large as my pistol shrimp, others say to use caution, while still others say that the Goby will completely ignore the shrimp. Very confusing.

FWIW, anytime you mix inhabitants with that much size differential, you run an uncalculated risk. Nobody can make a guarantee either way. It will be the goby's choice whether or not he wants the shrimp for dinner. I will say that odds favor the possibility.

I think I am going to err on the safe side and put the shrimp in an extra tank I have. It will be in there by itself, but I will hopefully add a shrimp goby here soon. Thanks all!
