    Time to move on

5 or 6 inches and it was stirred up a bit, not enough to cloud up the water but the center of the tank a power head moved that down so it is only about an inch thick.

Clown made it through the night but won't make it until noon. Scrubbers off but I'm not going to wait to see if that helps. Tearing it down tonight and getting the fish to the LFS. I have to move the tank in the next year or so to the basement.

With that in mind I'm just going to break it all down, move it and start from scratch in when the basement is done.

Now I'll have two tank builds to share with you all.

Thanks to everyone for the help.

Yeah, you had 3 bad things going for you there. Old tank sydrome, an exhausted/disturbed deep sand bed and the addition of an algae scrubber. I'd definitely start over too if I was in your position.

    Appreciate all the help.

I was able to get some of the fish to the store and they made it, so that is a definite plus. As I sit here typing this I cannot believe how quiet the loft is, I have had tanks for nearly 17 years and can't believe hoe quiet it is without one!

Sorry your having to fight it too. I'm not sure what was going on in my tank, I still think it was some type of parasite, parameters were in check except for nitrates and they had been high for awhile at 50ppm.

Anyway now the fish, water, rock and sand are out so I need to know what to do to the tank for cleaning and storage.

Just break it all down. I wouldnt clean the inside with any chemical. I use glass cleaner lightly on the outside.

Strange isn't it? When our 180 sprung a leak, we were w/o a tank for a few days and the silence was almost eerie
