Also, I'm fairly certain the dwarf fuzzy will eat any of your CUC that will fit in it's mouth. Are you going to keep corals without a CUC (CUC = clean up crew aka hermits, snails etc).

LA recommendations were tighter than ours about a year or so ago. There was a thread on RC where we all requested the limits be raised. They listened. However, they raised them above what anyone was recommending, but we were all happy with that. So, that's the background on that recommendation. Not too scientific, so take it for what it's worth.
Frank Marini and Scott Michael both agree with me on a 30g as the acceptable minimum.

A lion will not eat your cleanup crew (snails and hermits are safe). They will indeed eat any shrimp you put in there, but they're not essential anyways.

A fuzzy can't eat an adult maroon. But get only one maroon, if you can, because in pairs they could beat up the lion.

I can't, however, comment on the appropriateness of the maroon in a 30g itself, as I don't know anything about them.

    oh awesome!
    >incognito- im kinda set on the angler and fuzzy lion but the two on their own dont really complete the tank. you know? since you know 10,000 times more than i do :), what would you put in the tank besides the two+ a maroon? Would the wartskin angler eat the maroon if its 5-6 inches???? i hope not! :( . anyways, what is the best filtration for my tank??? (30 gal with 4, 5 fish max, simple corals, cleanup crew, and moderate lighting and waterflow, normal sandbed) thanks! :D and finally if the warty is nto going to work, are there anglers that can work? ex. sargassum angler?????? the wartskin is kinda what i have my heart set on but if its totally out of the question then its out of the question. thankyou so much!

((((would you recommend either a glass or acrylic aquarium?))))

    > jtnova13- i do plan on keeping a reef with a clean up crew with emerald crabs or others(what are the coolest ones that do the job??) and snails and hermits. :b

Watch the videos in the first post. When we say they can eat things you never dreamed of, we mean it O.O

Why Anglers Make for Great Species Tanks.

So, it's kindda a decision you have to make. Do you want tankmates that won't eat each other or do you wanna try the angler/lion route knowing the risk. It's all about how much you are willing to risk and that's a personal decision.

There's a lot of tankmates that would be great with a lion, but I don't have any suggestions for critters to go with an angler in a 30g.

Don't get a emerald, unless you don't care if he eventually becomes lunch. Anglers and lions will eat crabs. An emerald may be able to hide awhile, but you don't want an emerald to hide... you want a workhorse.

There's a pygmy angler that is seen coming over from Hawaii. He's your best bet.

I don't have any special filtration. Protein skimmers on the tanks that are large enough and the rest just have LR. Water changes are your friend. Don't have reef-type flow because once the lion puts out his fins to hunt, he can be blown around like a kite catching the wind.

FWIW, The pygmy angler Incognito is referring to is Antennata tuberosus, AKA Tuberculated Frogfish, Bandfin Frogfish, Pygmy Frogfish. They top out at slightly less than 3".

Here's a link to some of my fish. I'm updating the page, but so far it's already taken me a week!

    Our fish

The ones in the 60g tank that would go into a 30g are
    Ambon
    Cockatoo
    Leaf
    Fuzzy
    Male redfin
    Caribbaeus
    Littoralis
    Fu manchu.

All of these fish are compatible. All can fit in a 30g. But they CAN'T all be in there at the same time. Just to clarify.

Also the angels are not reef safe, I have seen them munch through coral like butter! I wouldn't trust them with any soft coral and only limited hard coral!
