I had some rams and they are aggressive. My mated pair ---the male killed the female and then the eggs hatched. One baby systematically killed all his siblings. His name was Brutus and he lived for 9 years in a 10 gallon tank by himself--he would kill anything I put in. He also loved snails, my dd and I would crush them and he would eat them from our hand. He also could recognize us. When she left and came for a visit a year later , he came right out to see her. All in all he was a great pet!

they become aggressive during breeding and want to protect their fry. my guess is they saw each other as a threat to the fry(you don't have to be smart when your a fish lol).

also rams and most cichlids with unwarranted aggression act this way because of a lack of hiding places and cover for them to feel safe.
also the rams recommend tanks size is 20 gallon minimum. im not trying to pick apart you post i just wanted to say that rams are known for the being non-aggressive, it is very rare for rams to act like what you described with out cause. they are so peaceful many people keep them with tetras and cory catfish.

I am still undecided which way to go still. If I go fresh I want to go with a planted tank and big chunk of drift wood. I have never been into the fresh water tanks though so if it is fresh I want it to be FRESH. LOL or I could just go with a assorted damsel tank. That would be a splash of color for her. Has any one ever had a assorted damsel only tank.

Sostoudt--No I don't take offense. My rams were in a 55 gallon tank--Brutus ended up in a 10 gallon because he was so aggressive. I had researched Rams before I bought them because they were supposed to be peaceful---you never know there is always the exception to the rule.
