well I didnt pay this amount, but I lost a 500 golden puffer recently. I would say probably the most i spent on a single item was a couple hundred dollars (discounted price) for a large lava chalice coral. Unfortunatly lost that piece when my first tank sprung a leak. I personally would rather start off now with smaller frags versus a large colony and watch the frags grow out. This way I can buy much more at once and have a big variety of corals.

The most on a fish was only in the thirtys. I want a chevron tang and will get one when I finally set up a display tank instead of frag tanks. Haha. I usually buy frags at a small size simply to get a larger variety of species, but when I place an order its always atleast 150 dollars. I try to order atleast once a month. The most Ive spent on a single frag has been 100. The most expensive invert was a cleaner shrimp. 40 dollars locally.
