That's good that you are doing your research and have a plan for him!!!

I must say, however, that just because a fish may not seem "too big" for a tank or a tank "too small" for the fish - does not mean it's being housed properly.

The reason that the minimum tank sizes are given is that the given species of fish needs more than a tank that their fins dont touch both sides of. There are other things such as swimming room, grazability, water stabiltiy, etc that are taken into account when advising tank sizes - for all ages of a given species - not just when they are small.

    That's my $0.02!!!!

hahahah its a tough hobby with a sharp (and expensive) learning curve.

You are on the right track - just keep learning from your mistakes and keep doing more research!!!

Have you tested for ammonia, Ca, alk, phosphates or Mg? I know you listed some parameters but saying your water is "perfect" doesn't help when you missed a few of the big ones.

As for diseases, do you have a picture of the fish? As I have said, it may be ich, but other posters seemed to assume that. Perhaps a better description of the physical appearance of the fish, were they eating, behavior, heavy breathing, red around the gills, white spots on them, covered in a white "furry" substance? Anything else?

yea all have been tested and good. as far as the diseases go not picture as the fish has passed already. Fish was experiencing heavy breathing and looked more of a white "furry" coat on its body. as far as the eating behavior he was eating no problem until the day he died. that day he would not eat at all thats when i new it was to late. did not see any white dots or anything more of a white filmy slime. I did call the store that I purchised from and they said it could have been from stress and to add a little prime to help build his amune system which i did but did not help.

I thought raising the temperature will speed up the ich cycle?

Yes - sometimes so much so that it can overwhelm the host and kill.

It is a dry heat, yeah right !
As GuitarMan posted this sounds much more like Brookynella than Marine Ich. Mucous coating that kills in a number of hours after the first symptoms appear.

Anything like any of these pictures? marine velvet - Google Search

If it was marine velvet, definitely don't buy any fish for a while.
