I've had my tank between two big floor speakers for about 6 months with no problems.

However, in the last 6 months i've not been playing music very loud, but i've just moved house and have a new living room that's huge and we watch movies through the sound system, so it's a lot louder. Also having a party soon so will be very loud.

Each speaker has a built in subwoofer for the bass.

How will the fish cope? Will they be alright with loud music? Their tank isn't on the floor, it's on a table which is a bit higher up than the subwoofers, so they arn't getting directly blasted.

In the tank is 2 Clowns, 1 Regal Tang, Peppermint Shrimp and 2 hermits.

I have a separate 15" 200w Cerwin Vega self powered sub about 6' from the tank and when I get the db's up a little I notice the fish respond funny. So does the wife as she comes downstairs and flashes the light switch cause I can't hear a thing she is saying.....

interesting question. i've always thought that at the very least, the fish could feel the vibrations travelingl through the water. since i'm a bit of an audiophile i have quite an extreme stereo set up and do listen to it at irresponsible levels. i have never noticed any distress in my fish or strange behavior to suggest they don't like it.

believe it or not, i had a betta fish that i KNOW liked reggae music.

I hope others chime in on this as far as their personal experiences - i have wondered this at different times as well.

any idea if your fish are more the headbanger type? or perhaps ravers?

    :)

please make sure that no one tries to feed them a martini! extreme vodka dosing is a no-no.

My marshall half stack is right next to my tank..Can't say I notice any strange behavior when I turn it up..they said they prefer more bluesy riffs than heavy ones though..so I try to keep them happy.

Cool, won't worry about it then.

Hopefully they will all survive their stressful move today.

    good luck on the move.

as far as music... i have two line6 guitar amps next to my 55gal cichlid tank and they dont seem to notice. i have two cerwin vega loudspeakers that have 15" woofers in them and besides my neighbors getting pissed off, my fish dont seem to care :) the bearded dragon doesnt even care which is inbetween both speakers.

I also have a powered sub sitting very near my tank. I haven't noticed much change in the fish when it's cranked up, but then again I never really looked.

Have you ever stuck your head in a bucket of water and tapped on the outside. it sounds alot lounder than if your head wasn't in the water right??? most likely they do notice it but like anything they probably get use to it
