Loudness is not as big as a concern as bass. I have a half stack next to my 55 and when I crank it up they like to come watch, but as you slowly turn up the bass that start to react differently. As stated before, sounds travels differnet in water than in air. What seams loud to you is very loud for fish. Just like dropping a coin in a concrete pool, you hear it perfectly.

If I understand correctly, your speakers do not share a stand with your fishtank, that is good. I personally do not like alot of bass around my fish tank. If you have a party once in a while, I would just watch closely, you can tell when its bugging your fish. My fish go on alert and look all around them as if trying to find where the noise is coming from. But when watching movies, I guess I would be carefull. Just remember that constant stress will lower their overall lifespan (or so I hear :)).

So the short story is that I turn down the bass. Just my personal preference.

I don't think it really bothers them, but then again they don't have a light switch to turn on and off to tell us. LOL

I do agree that I would keep the subs away from them.

What I can tell you from experience is a m-20 exploding under water while not having the sharp crack is a hell of a lot louder while down in the hull of a steel sub. Sound travels in water but not well in air.

I noticed that my fish didnt like me playing drums. My nano is about 2 feet from my set, and my previous 20gal was about 4 feet. The fish in the 20gal acted startled and went into hiding, but my shrimp in the nano usually watches me play. I love that little guy. haha

I have my 15" ampeg bass amp right next to my fresh water tanks and I have a stereo in the same room and I play pretty loud plus the music I play to is loud but ive never noticed the fish acting weird or maybe they're just used to it.
