Well i feel like bit of newbie asking this but oh well thats how we learn new things isnt it.

I recently purchased a new lunare wrasse. She is about 10 cm long and looks healthy. By that i mean healthy coloration, nice body weight, and isnt showing sighns of any diseases. Unfortunatley she has been hiding for a week and I havent seen any hardcore evidence of her eating. Im getting worried though becuase realistically she only has another week left before some real problems set in. I have tried the following foods:

Marine Green and Marine Dinner made by Fish Fuel Co.
    Bloodworm
    Mussels with no shell
    Prawns
    Flakefood
    and even Nori

So anyway like i said i really need her to eat. Does anyone have any tips, tricks, ideas cause i need help. I have gotten difficult fish to feed before but i would rather waste as little time as possible with regards to finding the right food for her.

Oh yeah before i forget i recently realised my nitrate levels are way to high.:shame::shame::shame:

I am currently rectifying the problem and slowly and getting reults. I was just wondering if the high levels had anything to do with the new wrasse not feeding.

Any info at all is appreciated.

Or just couple drops of "garlic extract" (from local health food store) - mixed in with regular food.

I always soak food first in cup of water, with drop or two of the garlic juice. Makes food hydrated so does not float on top of water, so not to go directly out overflow to sump. Also can control feeding somewhat by using turkey baster to squirt food where I want.

One other thing I do is feed over about 5-10 minutes, not dumping in all at once. Food better consumed by fish and less just sinking to bottom.

    hey! omard !

My clownfish was avoiding almost all flake food I've got! I just added few grains of dry garlic and now it's crazy about the garlic/flake mixture! Thanks for sharing this tip... I heard about the garlic enhancers however was sceptic about them... Now I know what to do! ;D

    Cheers mate :victory:

Yep, dry garlic powder will work also...is what I used until I could find the extract. Really put the fish in a noticeable more frantic feeding frenzy.

(Just like it will for people! :) )

Just used a tiny tiny bit...letting it soak with food for while before putting in tank.---and not all the time.

I think the garlic extract is way to go. Any health food store should have.

We added a yellow finned fairy wrasse to one of our tanks a few weeks back, at first she would only eat mysis, but after about a week we noticed that she was eating pellets as well. I agree with adding garlic, it works wonders....

    Hey chaps !
Garlic extract contains mixture of highly efficient antibiotics. These compounds are very effective against broad spectrum of bacteria. There is a little chance of buildup of garlic specific metabolites in your tank if you use reasonable amount of garlic.

Enjoy the beauty of science ! ;D
