Sorry. I wasn't wondering about the med itself, put it's usefulness in treating Ich.

Here is the write up on the Seachem web site (which does seem to include Marine Ich) :
Metronidazole™ is an effective and safe treatment for several protozoan and anaerobic bacterial diseases of fish (Cryptocaryon, Hexamita, Ichthyophthirius). It does not adversely affect the filter bed and is easily removed with carbon. There is little danger of overdosing. Usual dose is 125 mg/10 gallons.

A scientific study would be nice, especially if it's not an unsubstantiated claim from a source that has something to gain by selling the stuff.

There have been some claims that is "works" on Ich, however, no one can produce consistent results. Thus, it's not an effective cure.

Increased temp = decreased oxygen. They need increased oxygen during this time when their gills are inflammed. I put small (cheap) HOB skimmers on my hospital tanks where applicable, not that they skim, but they max out your 0s. You'll find they'll gill less.

Now I'm curious, for those that like raising temps, and I know it is not an uncommon practice, what do you think the benefits are? Friendly discussion :)

In freshwater tanks, raising the temp shortens the length of its lifecycle. I think people read on "ich" and think it applies to both saltwater and freshwater ich.

Yes, but why is that a benefit?

Everything I have read says it is not for crypto... It is my firm belief that most people google it and either get mis-information, or confuse crypto with freshwater ich.

On a side note, I have read from a few sources that if you do not add a new strain of crypto to your aquarium for 11 months, the crypto will die off. It has to do with inbreeding in the strain.
