hey guys, this is for anyone, but as far as i know, geekdafied would most likely be the best help. i was at the LFS yesterday, and i saw a few fish that were caught in the gulf of mexico, in orange beach (which is actually in alabama). one was a sort of puffer.. but the one in question was approx. 1.5-2 inches, and it was taller than it was long... either white or brown and darker brown vertical stripes.. an interesting part of it is that there are two humps that lead to the dorsal fins on top... sorry that there's no pic, but maybe that's enough info for someone to at least give me a general area to look at on fishbase or something... oh yeah, i was told that when the store got it, it was about the size of your pinky fingernail... so its grown a pretty good bit...

anyway, any help would be appreciated, i'm just curious, and the LFS doesn't know much about the fish...

i figured it would be harder than i thought... but if i were to search the net for something, IE fishbase or something similar, what would be the best way to go about doing it? by region (gulf of mexico) or what? i googled "fish found in gulf of mexico" and came up with some bigger, saltwater gamefish (cooking and eating kind of fish)...

also, i figured that even if it is a juvenile fish, it may carry the same colors/pattern/shape as it grows... most fish do anyway, don't they?

i've found similar pictures on fishbase, but it didn't say that they're native to the gulf... and the face/head/skull structure has a different shape...

I was thinking spade or jack knife, there are all sorts of "jacks" in the gulf, 99% are not reef safe. But they sure do taste good, haha.
