fish is slowly dying :(

i know it woulda been too small for a full grown chromis, he was only suppose to be there temporarily. He woulda joined the "tribe" lol of chromis in one of the 55's those of which are too big as of now to have gone in the nano anyway. what i envisioned was it woulda just swum around for a week or two then i woulda been at ease enough to take it out and stick the intended livestock.

i'll make a build thread at some point for the tank, i'm just not sure about this whole small salt tank situation might end up just going brackish if i end up killing more fish ....brackish puffer ftw?!

idk we'll see i'm gonna let the tank run empty for another week, run tests and make another attempt.

 

Well the reason i didn't even bother to look very closely and pick a chromis out specifically was because that lfs is usually very trustworthy so i know they wont INTENTIONALLY sell me a sick fish, but because it was delivery day maybe he was stressed i really dont know, hindsight is 20/20 as they say, i'll def. never buy another fish on delivery day because i hadn't thought of it as you mentioned it but it does sound like quite a stressful day for a fish to have.

 

I had a very similar and sad experience as well but with a yellow watchman. In hindsight - he likely did not have adequate time between his delivery to the store and when I purchased him - I pay much closer attention to that now when I make a new purchase.

I have no doubts this will work out fine for you in the end. In no way do I hold a candle to the experienced people on here - but I definitely get the feeling that you are conscientious about your fish and tanks.

Take a deep breath and look forward to the next one. I now have a wonderful shrimp - goby team that have worked out well.

I have lost 2 chromis in the last week. I know it is not the water in my Pico (3 gal) tank. I used the water from my 150g. Also, The one that is still thriving is one of the first 2 originals. As stated before, if all your params are correct, this just happens sometimes. Also, ask or have them show you the salt level at the LFS that your fish is coming out of. Alot of stores keep them at 1.017 and I keep it at 1.025. That is a huge jump for a little Chromis, even with a 1-3 hr acclimation. If it is a large difference. I would recommend a full day of slow acclimation...best of luck!!!

 

Thanks guys, i didn't know they kept the salinity that low, i'll def. ask next time i'm in. I'm not really in a rush, its just a lil tank for my bedroom its no biggie but i'd feel very guilty if i killed something else, so not so much as a snail is going to be staying in there for atleast another week just in case.

if you got him the same day he got shipped to the lfs then he would of been very stressed from being acclimated 2wice in one day...
