Does anyone know if this will at least help? I lost a yellow watchman goby (my wife's favorite fish) out of my last tank (eventually found behind the tank.) I just wanted to put something in place that might help in preventing fish jumping at least a little without blocking any light.

It's made out of egg crate.

Fish can and do jump right through eggcrate. Why not just avoid jumpers?

it will avoid big jumpers but if you want to be safe i would get one of those terrium tops with the screen.you may have to make some modification so you can still get in the tank without having to take you lighting off.

I used egg crate (the reflective chrome stuff) and it has worked great so far but I also covered the whole top (I use t5's) and had no noticable difference in light, no flaking either so far (Been about 6 weeks). Did in in four sections so i can take the smaller pieces off easily for accessing the tank, feeding etc.

Did this after loosing a filament fin flasher, really cool fish.

No other jumpers since and I have a fire fish, choris wrasse and six line....

    just my two cents.

The way you have it they can still get through pretty easily, at least get on top then flip off... even fully covered they can still get through, but much better than nothing...

Thanks for the feedback/advice. I know there's still chance for jumpers. I'll look at solutions similar to what either sostoudt or TJSlayer has given and see if I can apply something suitable for my tank.

    Thanks,
    Clayton

Looks like it will provide atleast a tiny bit more. Just wondering what fish you have with the goby? Sometimes it's boisterous tankmates that cause fish to jump.

I have nothing in the tank but sand. I'm just planning for the future. Live rock is going in this afternoon/evening, so it'll be a couple of months before I start adding fish.

My tentative fish stocking plans are:

    2xclowns
    3xchromis
    1-2xgobies
    1xNaso (Blonde) Tang
    1x6 line wrasse

Yellow watchman goby are notorious escape artist - they live to die in the shortest time possible in the aquarium ::) Just lost one yesterday. First he found a way to squeeze past the screen blocking overflow. Found his way down to my sump. The next day he found his way to my main pump's intake. I guess my fishes enjoyed well shredded fresh fillet mignon :p
