So I'm looking for a fish like a chromis. Just a fish that loves open water and is very active. I have a 40 gallon tank FOWLR. Thanks in advance!

That sounds good. Just be careful mixing blennies and gobies together as they share the same space and most blennies are more aggresive then gobies. Your clowns should swim around pretty well and are kind of chromis like in that regard.:)

firefish, scissortail dartfish, orangelined cardinalfish, zebra dartfish & possum wrasse are all smaller active fish that are decent lively swimmer. Some of those are quite well known to be jumpers though, so take a lid or netting under strong advisement.

Any sort of cardinal would fill the same space a chromis would. As would a firefish/dartfish. Just look up whatever species you think is the best looking and make sure it isn't particulary aggressive.

Your clowns swim around the open? Mine stay in about a basketball size space in the rocks except for feeding time.

A dartfish would fill the open ocean area. I love my firefish.

My clown swam all over the tank. A fishes behavior is greatly influenced by its enviroment. Add one to a tank with lots of other fish and it will find a territory and defend it. House one with very few fish and it will feel comfortable enough to roam more. It also matters what kind of fish they are housed with.;)
