I use a screwdriver and stab it or a chopstick and smash it, then feed it to one of my shrimp.

If it is a crab you can use the old jar trick. Put something meaty in a jar or glass, lean it up against a rock, then it will climb in but cant get back out.

Yeah, about 60 crabs, ranging from very small (less than 1/4 inch across, most of them were around this size) all the way to a couple that were 1 1/2 inches across (bigger than my occelaris clown was...), and 2 porcelain crabs that were over an inch. This was on some aquacultured rock from tampa bay saltwater.

I had to flush every hole of every rock with fresh (RO) water (using a turkey baster) to get all of them off. Every rock also got dipped for about a minute in RO water, which got a few more.

I still have crabs in/on the rocks (tons of porcelains), and catch one or 2 gorillas a day with a small flathead screwdriver and feed the impaled carcasses to the shrimp. Stupid shrimp won't hunt the crabs for themselves, but have no problems eating them.

The gorillas were left in the freshwater tub to meet the in-sink-erator ;D.

Ya only the big brittles can be fish killers, and there pretty easy to see. Every time I feed my tank my brittle stars legs come shooting out from under the rocks.
