I'd agree. If not that, I'd wonder if one side is warmer/cooler (sun?)...

that came off as over sensitive. i'd bet most folks don't have a clue what a dither fish is.

Tracy I think that you just scared your fish a bit, since you took all the rock out and put it back in..
last time I did that, I used to keep all my fish on one side of the tank by scaring them a bit so i could work confortable..then i would switch. and they would just stay on that side for a while after i was done ( up to 2 weeks was my experience till they went back to normal)

well if it wasnt i am sorry. But when the few times you do comment at least on my threads, i sense an attitude, this has not been the first time i have felt this way. If I am wrong, I appologize, and thank you for the compliment. And leave it at that.

Dither fish.. ( correct me if im wrong) is like the fish that the other fish use as a reference to measure the safety of a place.
like for example, her wrasse would go out and swim everywhere, and everyone else in the tank would see that it was safe to go and so they did too.
now that the wrasse is gone, they dont know if its safe to go all around, so they stay in one place.

K+ tracy, That could also be the reason of your fish being on one side. Im guessing time will fix that as well.

I've heard the term and had a vague notion of what it meant...now I know.
    Thanks.

    I had a similar experience

then I moved the tub of pellets to the window ledge on the other side of the tank and all the fish moved to that side

seriously - if you keep the fish food where they can see it, and they learn to recognise the direction it comes from , the fish will hang about in the side of the tank nearest the food
