I have 2 Heniochus Bannerfish in QT waiting to go into my 240 gal. display tank. Here's a link to my tank thread if you want more details on that:

So today I noticed that one of my Bannerfish is seriously harassing the other one. It looks like he may have nipped the other's banner fin. Other than that, they both look healthy and are eating well. Should I take a chance and transfer them to the display tank now even though they have only been in QT for two weeks? My thought is that the aggression would stop if they have more swimming space. Or do I just leave them be. I'm just worried about the weaker fish becoming ill due to stress. Opinions?

Thanks for your input. I am inclined to agree but I am wondering if it will be too much bio load for my 240g. which was setup and had livestock, rock and water transferred into it from my 76 gal. 3 weeks ago. Too risky?

And to complicate matters, I have a smaller Latticed Butterflyfish in another QT tank that I was going to add to the tank first so it wouldn't get bullied by the Henni's.

Oh I do not think it would be too much bio-load at all. I really do not see where you have much of a choice. If the water chemistry is appropriate I would do it. If your numbers are off consider adding some cycling products like MB7 or Dr.Tim. Feed sparingly and you should be fine, that is a lot of water.

Can you screen half of the QT off?

You are wise beyond your age! I was hoping you would chime in. I will move them in the morning. Should I add the Latticed Butterflyfish at the same time or add it in a few weeks?

Separating the QT with egg-crate was a thought, but it would decrease the Henni's swimming space significantly.

Personally I would add the Banner and leave the Butterfly in the QT. No reason to risk all the fish when the Butterfly is doing fine where it's at. Lower bio-load on both tanks win win.

    Thank you. :)

Hopefully someone else will chime in with an alternative plan just as another option, but I would feel comfortable moving the Banners. Hopefully the bully will mellow in larger quarters. The stress of a bully in the QT sounds like a bad situation that might get worse.

I'll chime in but not with an alternative plan. I agree with Corailline, just add them now and the butterfly later. I love bannerfish! They looks so cool in tanks.

Thanks. I love Bannerfish too, they are very soothing to watch. I just completed drip acclimation and they are now in the DT. I am sure that it was the right choice. The smaller one who has been getting picked on hardly has a banner fin left. I hope that the aggressive one mellows out soon.
